Reasons Why Your Car Heater May Not Be Working

Image
It’s now August and there is hot weather in most parts of the country. But Fall and the cold winter is not far away. Perhaps your car air conditioning is working perfectly, but what about your heat in the winter? You need the same type of performance from your car’s heater during the winter.   How does your car’s heater work? Engine coolant goes through your engine and absorbs heat. This heat is passed through the heater core. Think of this as a small radiator. Steinway Auto Repair - Eliminating bad odors in the AC System

Image
At Steinway Auto Repair we regularly perform car AC repair in Queens . At times customers come in because there is a foul-smelling odour coming through the air conditioning vents. These bad smells can be caused by mold in the AC system as the result of clogging in the Air conditioning box drain or a leaking heater core.  To determine the cause of the smell, have a professional auto mechanic do the diagnosis as a leaking heater core usually cannot be detected easily.  First, we usually check the carpet beneath the dashboard on the passenger side for leaks from the Air Conditioning box. If it smells like mold or water is present, then the Air conditioning box drain may be clogged. If it smells like antifreeze, then the heater core may need to be replaced.  The Air Conditioning box drain will need to be inspected. The vehicle will need to be lifted up to view the drain. If there is antifreeze coming out of the drain, then the problem is a leaking heate...

In this hot weather, it is extremely important to have your car AC serviced and tuned up before the summer comes along. It’s tough to crawl in stop and go traffic when your car air conditioner is not working or blowing hot air. At Steinway Auto Repair, Auto Mechanic in Queens , we always encourage our customers to get their AC serviced and inspected during the spring.  One of the reasons why your car air conditioning system can break down is because of low refrigerant. The car AC system is reliant on pressure, and the system is kept closed and pressurized by hoses, lines, sealing rings (known as O rings).  If the hoses, lines, O rings age or get damaged, then the refrigerant in your car AC can leak out and thereby cause the pressure in your car AC system to become lower and eventually too low to turn on your car’s air condit...
